Choose Ecology, Choose Electrex (directive 2009/125/EC)

  • December 14, 2023

The new European directive 2009/125/EC defines an “eco-design applicable to energy-related products”, and in particular to welding machines. It will come into force on 1 January 2024 and, among other requirements, establishes the minimum efficiency of welding machines. Which are:

Environment concern has always been a constant at Electrex and all Electrex welding inverters comply with this directive, having been subject to optimization and exhaustive tests that guarantee efficiency far above what is required by this directive.

Switch from conventional to inverter with Basic!

Regarding Electrex welding machines using conventional technology (transformer power sources), the results of the tests we have carried out indicate that these power sources do not comply with Directive 2009/125/EC and therefore cannot be supplied or commissioned within the European Union from 1 January 2024. That’s why we have the BASIC range as an alternative, so that some of the DIGIT II and LTRONIC SYNERGIC machine models supplied to your company can be upgraded to inverter (complying with this directive). The same goes for our welding rectifier ranges (RCD and RS), which have always had much more environmentally friendly alternatives in the DC inverter range.

If your company intends to purchase a transformer welding machine, we recommend that you contact us before the end of 2023 to discuss the details of the order. That way, we can ensure that your transaction is completed on time, allowing the invoice to be issued before the deadline set by the directive. It is important to note that if the machines are invoiced before 2024, you will have the option of storing them in stock and marketing them later, according to your needs. We are committed to offering you all the support you need to facilitate this transition process and ensure that your company complies with the new regulations in force from 1 January 2024.

Talk to an Electrex commercial technician to find out more about this directive and the effects it has on your Electrex product range. We’ll be happy to help!
